Greetings Turners!
Well, it looks like the weather has finally turned the corner and
Spring has made its late arrival. I can now go out to the shop without having
to turn on the heater hours ahead of time. But also now the grass is growing
like crazy, and the gardens need to be tended, so I have to use those extra
hours to do the chores and then some.
Due to the Memorial Day Holiday, our May meeting will be on the
third Monday, the 19th. Walt Thies, president of the Salem club, will be
the featured guest, showing us tips and tricks for turning. This is will
be an interesting demo, and you might find a way to save a buck or two.
I will be out of town on business (my paying job), and VP Dennis Avery will
be hosting the meeting.
Our challenge for this month is a bowl, either like the one Rudi
demod in April, or else an individual size bowl to be donated to Food
for Lane County. I contacted Woz at FFLC, and she was excited that we were
going to contribute for their spring fundraiser. She said she would try
to make it to the meeting to personally thank the people who bring in a
bowl for the benefit.
If you took some of the Walnut that Dave Young brought in for
his fundraiser for the park in Soda Springs, it is time to bring in a couple
finished pieces to send back with him. We do not have a demonstration lined
up for June yet, so kick some ideas around at the meeting - it might be
a good time to have a finishing round table or something like that.
See you on the 19th!
